Back Your Sh#t Up

Is your data important to you?

I’m talking about:

  • Work documents
  • Project files
  • Financial details
  • Family photos

You know the stuff. I bet you would be devastated to lose it. I bet you don’t back it up either.

Only today I received a note from a freelancer I use saying that she had lost a document she had just finished for me. It took her a week and it looks like she is going to have to start again from scratch, without being paid for the second time round.

STUPID. STUPID. STUPID.

You can back your stuff up in two ways.

Firstly – stick any important stuff on a USB drive or even a USB stick and save stuff on there every day or whenever you make a change.

Secondly – save it to an online storage service such as box.net.

Most operating systems even come with their own backup automation software or you can download it. I know it’s a boring subject but it only takes a few minutes to get this  all sorted out and can save a lot of heartache.

How to Create an Online Course – FREE

Making money online is great fun, but there are a few problems such as:

  • Creating a website to promote it
  • Delivering the content
  • Collecting payments securely
  • Sorting out refunds
  • Marketing your course
  • Collecting reviews and testimonials

Well a new generation of websites solve these problems for you. One such site is Udemy.com. Udemy allows you to upload videos, presentations, audio guides, PDFs and many other file types and either give them away for free publicity or sell them.

If you really want to generate an online income but don’t want the hassles that go with it then Udemy.com could work really well for you. I’ve uploaded several of my own courses there. Stuff I either recorded a while back and never got round to marketing or stuff which I never got round to promoting myself.

Best of all, they show you how to create a course and promote it yourself. You get to keep most of the profits as well. How cool is that!!

Here is the free course showing you how to do it.

Get Paid to Read Books

I occasionally have blinding flashes of inspiration.

I literally had one just now. I was looking at my inbox which is full of messages informing me about products I’ve just sold. Many more are coming in since I started to sell my products via Udemy.com. Here’s the thing though. I then realised how all of this came about in the first place. It was mainly due to the books I’ve read.

I’ve read many thousands of books. Many on business, spirituality, personal development and so on. The ones related to business I’ve read and taken action on to grow my on and offline businesses. I actually wondered what dollar value I could put on each book. If I’ve read say 500 business books which at the moment have created a $30,000 per month online income then it works out that each book has paid me $60 per month or $720 per year.

So how many books would you read if they paid you that sort of money?

Think BEFORE You Post

The bigger a company becomes the more scope there is for somebody to make a mistake or piss customers off. This is why it is vital to build an E-myth style business and have systems and checks for everything.

An IT support company I used to work for had a process for sending e-mails to senior mangers about network faults. Each e-mail had to follow a certain format AND be checked by another member of staff in case there was errors. If this isn’t done then silly mistakes happen.

Take this message I received from Nielsen, one of the biggest book data companies in the world. They are promoting a brand new book publicity service.

All I need to is click on the button to take them up on their special offer.

The only problem is that when you click on the button it opens your e-mail program so you can e-mail them for a quote!

E-mail them what? I don’t even know what to ask them. Now somebody has to e-mail me back, then I e-mail them. As we know, employees are paid to look busy but as business owners time is money.

Why not link to a simple form where we can put in how many books we have, how many we want to promote and telling us a bit more about the benefits?

Why You Need to Ask More Than Once

Have you ever received an e-mail offering something you really want? And have you ever meant to buy it later but simply forgot? I know I have.

Here’s the thing though. Many business owners don’t want to be seen to be a pest so they only send one sales message and then presume people who didn’t buy didn’t want to. This isn’t the case at all. People who don’t want to buy won’t be on your list. You should be sending roughly one sales message to every three or four informational messages. People will soon unsubscribe if they don’t like what you are doing.

Here is an example from one of my sites. Every time I hope the cart for a few days and announce it only a few join. By the second and third message many more join.

Enough said?

Avoiding Goal Overwhelm

Don’t yawn (yet) but do you set goals?

  • If you do, do you write them down?
  • Do you write a plan to achieve them?
  • Do you set milestones and ‘next actions’?
  • Do you have daily steps to take towards them? [Read more...]

Welcome

If you want to know how to build a successful web based business but dont’ know where to start you are in the right place. I’m not a big name guru but I’ve made a living working on the web since 2002 and my onlines sales are around $30,000 per month. Let me know if I can help you in any way. It does take hard work but it isn’t as hard as most people make out.

First Time Here?

Procrasination Kills

If I had a dollar for every person I’ve met who wants to make money on the web. So what goes wrong?

Here is my take on the disconnect between wanting to have the income and doing nothing about it.

Person sees what is going on on the web. Sees people making money and the stories of rags to riches. If they are in business they see competitors coming up with products or using social media to garner a large following and then they say to themselves, ‘If they can do it, so can I.’

But then what? Maybe read a few e-books on internet marketing. Maybe visit a few websites giving advice. Maybe even sign up to some web guru mastermind groups teaching how to stamp on the search engines or gain thousands of views on YouTube. How about setting your business on auto-pilot so you can sit on the beach and sip cocktails.

When Dreams Come True

My dream for a few years now has been to emigrate to Australia. I’ve been here twice so far and each time, for the first time on my holidays, I’ve been very sad to leave for home.
By the time I usually get to the end of a holiday I’m missing home and ready to go back. Not so for Australia.
So I set the goal, dreamed the dream, did the work and achieved what I’ve really wanted. But here are two thoughts on what happens when dreams come true.
