Are You Out of Balance?
I tend to write about what I’ve gotten right and what I’ve gotten wrong. Either way I can share based upon my experience rather than theory.
I’ve been hit with man flu this week. I should have seen it coming because I’ve been working very hard and tried to stretch myself too thin once again. I’ve felt tired for a while but my body said to me SLOW DOWN and gave me a cold, sore throat etc. I should have listened.
Speaking to my wife I realised that I’ve not taken any time off since December 2009! Not Good.
Asking myself if there is anything urgent the answer was no. What would happen if I took a week off? Not much. I’m not David Cameron after all.
So speaking of balance – are you in it? I started to post on Facebook this week and was surprised to see how many people are posting on there – pretty much all day long. Even when they are on holiday or out spending ‘quality time’ with their family. Can any0ne else see the irony in that?
Take a few moments and step outside of yourself. Look at your life in the following areas:
- Relationships
- Work / career
- Finances
- Health and fitness
- Spirituality
- Family
Which is most important to you out of 10 and which one are you spending most time on?
Looking at Facebook again (and I’m not picking on you) I can see some people are spending maybe an hour or more per day! Would there be anything else you could be doing with that time?
- A workout
- Educate?yourself
- Read
- Develop some products or ideas to sell
- Take your kids to the park
Bearing in mind that all of your comments today will be tomorrows chip paper.
By the way – I’m speaking to myself here as well. I have to keep asking myself if I am off track. If I lose focus I don’t make money and I can’t eat. If I work too much I get ill.

Many women face the problem of being off balance. We are so busy taking care of everyone and everything else, we forget to take care of ourselves. We need to make ourselves a priority. If we fall ill, who will take care of all of those other things.
Wow! Now I feel awful. I could be working out or taking my kids to the park rather than being on Facebook, or reading blogs like this. Just kidding! There is nothing wrong with some recreational time for yourself. What is wrong with balancing all of those working/family hours with some freetime/Facebook networking?
Most important areas: religion and family. Most time consuming: work & finances. Yup, I am out of balance 🙁
It can be hard to stay balanced, even with the best intentions. I know that many of us, in an effort to provide for our families, often become obsessed with working. As a result our personal relationships (family) can suffer.
It is important to make time for the things that are important to us.
Good point. We don’t want to make it to the top, and realize that we are all alone.
Angel, you hit the nail right on the head!
LOL @ MrMister?
I hate to say it, but I think that people spend more than an hour a day on Facebook. I know people who constantly have it running in the background on their computers.
Sometimes balance seems like a luxury. I feel like there are always so many things grabbing for my attention, and I often feel like I don’t have time to reset myself.
With the holidays, this time of year can be especially out of balance. I?m taking a day of vacation time today just to relax because I was getting too stressed by all the things I?m trying to accomplish before the end of the year. Back to that fray tomorrow. Today ? rest!
