Dogshit of the Day
If there was a dog turd outside your house would you step in it? What about if there was one there every day. Would you go out of your way to step in it? If not, why not?
I’m guessing you would say to me that it would ruin your day a little. The thought of it would make you sick, not to mention the smell and inconvenience. So why then do you step in one by choice several times each day?I’m speaking metaphorically of course. The spiritual?equivalent?of a dogshit is the news on the radio, the newspapers, negative people, engaging in gossip or any negative talk in fact.
I tend to listen to Radio 2 but I have to turn off at midday. Why? Because Jeremy Vine comes on and talks about his dogshits of the day. Murderers, what the government are doing wrong now,?obesity, you name it. If it stinks he will be discussing it. He even gets experts calling in.
It isn’t just his show in fact. Listen to the news and they are telling us how crap life is. We are all doing to die from BSE, bird flu, swine fever or the latest?epidemic. But of course this isn’t the problem. The problem is they supply based upon demand. If nobody listened then they would stop.
David R Hawkins who is one of the most?enlightened?people on the planet says that some people will always be attracted to that which is spiritually deleterious. The reasons why don’t really concern us here. What does is what you are putting into your life. It is very much like a sausage machine in that you get out what you put in. If you put dogshit in, guess what comes out the other end?

Interesting analogy Paul. I think sometimes I let too much trash get in and ruin the rest.
My shoes are mainly clean, although i need to work on avoiding -ve talk. I sometimes find myself sucked in and before I know it woosh my thoughts are collecting and collating useless information that has no other use than to distract and destroy! Hmmm!
Thank You for a point worth pondering, I’m on it!!
Interesting… and also informative…What we should do is don’t respond to the craps as if we really enjoy them, then maybe they’ll stop.
Mass media is just for entertaining not enlightenment…All those meaningless gossip and rumors are delicious poison. Don’t take them seriously, or you are gonna be seriously hurt.
I agree that the constant trickle of bad news, moaning and brainless drivel from the mass media is not healthy. But, I still want to know the gist of the ‘real’ news out there and have found, what is for me, the solution: a one a week, easy to swallow ‘dogshit’ pill. It’s a UK publication called The Week.
It’s cheaper than a daily newspaper, takes up less time than watching the news every day and tastes a lot better than…
OMG! I was just ranting about this the other day. The news is so depressing. I know that they are just reporting our sad reality, but sometimes enough is enough. It is possible to overload on negativity.
I know what you mean. I don’t even watch the news any more. It will make you not want to even get out of bed in the morning.
The news only reports what is really going on. I find it harder to digest some of the bad things that people do. The world that we live in can sometimes be scary. I would rather know what is going on, than be left in the dark.
I’m with you on this. I can’t stand hearing bad news just for the sake of bad news. I wonder if there is a focus on bad news for entertainment value or for scare techniques. I think it is a little bit of both, unfortunately.
I avoid the bad news as you do. I don’t think it is relevant, and it makes me feel depressed.
I’m enjoying myday off today by *not* watching the news or turning on the radio, and by idly skimming through old blog psts. This one caught my eye 🙂 I agree, the best thing to do sometimes is not to listen to the crap. And perhaps the second best thing, when others start complaining about crap they;ve just heard, is to encourage them not to listen either.
