I never actually sat down and thought about internet marketing – I just realised that if I was to make a success of my first business, I needed to first, have a website and second, sell stuff on the internet.
And so it started. I had my site designed by a friend and put some course dates on there along with a Paypal button and hey presto – I was making money.
Bitten by the bug I decided to sell guitars direct to the public and had them shipped by the manufacturer direct.
I read books on search engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click marketing, sales, copywriting and internet marketing. Much like any traditional business, there are basics you need to learn and of course you need some sort of product or service to sell but nowadays, there are so many tools available to help you achieve your goal that you can have a working website up ready to take credit cards within a few hours.
In order to get started you need:
1. A website – you can use WordPress for this or www.weebly.com which will do all the hard work for you.
2. Way to take payment – use Paypal to start with and you can grow to a merchant account later on.
3. Product or service to sell – e-books or even telephone coaching can all be sold on the web. I’ve done it all.
I give you more tips here in other articles and on my internet marketing training site www.internet-rich.com
