Mindjet – Mind Map Tool
Mind maps were all the rage but seem to have fallen slightly out of favour in the past couple of years.
I’ve see a couple of web gurus use them and subscribed to some learning sites where they were used to explain some concepts. I like them personally because you can dump a lot of information from your brain into them and expland upon concepts.
Mindjet is an industry leader in mind mapping software. When I bought it, it was a one price option but now they seem to only offer a monthly subscription service which I’ll come to shortly.
I’ve used mind maps to create business and marketing plans as well as set yearly goals. I’ve also used them as a presentation format to create desktop movies for products to sell or give away.
Mindjet comes with some pretty cool features including icon libraries, easy to use interface and ability to add clickable urls. People can download a free reader if they just want to read your maps and of course you can print your maps to PDF for printing our downloads.
My main issue is their swap to monthly pricing which works out at around $40 per month for desktop or $25 per month for hosted. I really feel that this price point is far too high for what it is, especially when you compare other hosted services for use by business owners such as Basecamp, Sparkol and social media tools. UPDATE – the price seems to have changed to $349 now but you don’t get any updates when they are released.
For this reason it gets a thumbs down. For free you can use a mind mapping tool called FreeMind or other free tools you can Google.
Have fun

Thanks for the insight. I will definitely take your advice on this one. FreeMind will be of more use.
Monthly subscriptions seem to be the wave of the future. I think you would be hard pressed to find anything for a straight price these days. FreeMind will probably not be free for long.
MindJet is pretty easy to use compared to others.
