Procrasination Kills
If I had a dollar for every person I’ve met who wants to make money on the web. So what goes wrong?
Here is my take on the disconnect between wanting to have the income and doing nothing about it.
Person sees what is going on on the web. Sees people making money and the stories of rags to riches. If they are in business they see competitors coming up with products or using social media to garner a large following and then they say to themselves, ‘If they can do it, so can I.’
But then what? Maybe read a few e-books on internet marketing. Maybe visit a few websites giving advice. Maybe even sign up to some web guru mastermind groups teaching how to stamp on the search engines or gain thousands of views on YouTube. How about setting your business on auto-pilot so you can sit on the beach and sip cocktails.
This is where we can be hit by the paralysis by analysis issue where you know a bunch of stuff but don’t know how to put it into use. Then comes the opinion overload where one guy says that product X is the next big thing but the other guys says that is so yesterday. Confused!
The issue isn’t that it can be done because that much is obvious. The issue is what the heck do you sell and to who? There are too many website and product creation tools out there to name (okay I’ll name them – WordPress with design templates from WooThemes for e.g. and Camtasia to create videos).
If I had to sum up the issue I would use the word one of my toddler twins keeps saying when she can’t get her arm in her sleeve – STUCK!
Get Unstuck
Easy. Just create a site with WordPress, add a free template from WooThemes if you don’t want to spend any money and write a short e-book or film a few short training videos. Choose a subject you know about and choose a title which will solve a problem for people who would be interested in reading it.
Maybe you will sell some copies and maybe you won’t but at least you took some action. Many of my great website multi-million dollar ideas failed miserably. I bought a lot of e-books with resales rights, one of them was on how to make cocktails and one on how to make soup at home. But even those both sold a handful of copies.
So, to make a long point short.
- Get the website up
- Post an e-book or some short vidoes on it
Learn lessons and then do it again and again.
