See No Evil

This is all about what we say, what we watch and what and who we listen to.

I say this with the latest Saw movie just about to hit the cinemas. Not knowing what it was about I watched the first one a few years back. It then crossed my mind that people actually pay to see others being tortured, mutilated and eventually murdered in the most brutal ways the writing team can imagine.

What people do in their own time is their business I suppose but consider this. We are a mix of how we were brought up and what we do, see, think and the people we spend our time with.

If we are putting negative stuff into our heads then it simply has to have a negative impact on how we feel and therefore act.

The more (evil) we see the more more numb we become. There is a process of “normalisation”. That is why writers keep pushing the envelope. We become conditioned and need more (evil/brutal) simulation to satisfy our needs.

This is happening in all aspects of our lives, including the books we read and the computer games we play. What used to shock people 10, 20 30 years ago doesn’t even raise an eyelid.

We are conditioned by our environment which includes all media.

I believe there is such a thing as a ‘self-fulfilling prophecy’, where someone who believes the worst, will in time see it come to happen. This comes from the depressing and negative way people view ther life and the world around them.It can also affect thers around them, especially if they spend alot of time in their company. While bad things do happen, it is mainly the media that portays the negativity and evils of the world, as that is what sells content (even though it is the public – us, that consume the content).
Much more good exists in the world and I believe people are inherently good – so we should focus on that.

This dehumanisation is certainly what takes place in wars, occupying forces see the indigenous people as sub-human and that is why you see horrific acts commited by them

Maybe that’s why sometimes we do not get what we go after, wither it be a job etc.
If we have that negative thought in our head, well enough said.

    That is so true,

All action comes from thought, and thought comes from the innermost voice within. Whatever the output was, it was what was inside their writer’s head. Pretty sick. but really I think the person just needs a little love in his/her life. I can’t really blame that person if he/she has a grudge in a relationship or a similar depressing situation.

Yes. It is important to stay true to yourself and be careful about who you surround yourself with. Although, I have known people who have had a dark perspective on a lot of things and have been inspirational in other ways to me.

these sort of stuff makes you wonder what do these people do in their past time. Are they really that bored or should they just get a life. its really creepy. every year their creativity seems to intensify.

People come up with the most inhumane things possible, Although this is just acting we’re talking about, you kind of know that the writer’s are freaky for even having these in their head.

Films these days are ghastly really, the things we saw 15 years ago when “evil dead” came out are just as disgusting as ever. more than A decade ago we said those films were the most morbid. Now people need a bit more kick and actually want Uber realistic scenarios where they perform this savagery.

I once trained with a monk for at least a month. Everyday my goal was to focus on everything positive. no television no books nothing of sorts that would stimulate your mind. Prior to this I was a movie buff and pretty much have seen everything gross. After the training I started watching some horror flicks and it did send my heart pounding to the point that I could see freddy kreuger in my sleep.

What we feed our mind results in what we think, and how we think of others. I believe we are coming to an era that quite resembles the things the barbarians did.

Paul, your final statement is so true ? if we?re putting negative stuff into our heads it WILL have a negative impact on us. The corollary is ? if we put positive stuff into our heads it will have a positive impact on how we feel and therefore act. Even better ? if we put positive stuff into other people?s heads it will have a positive impact on both them and us!

    Such a wise observation Paul,

A very wise document states that “the eyes and ears are the windows of our soul” We are the watchers at the gate. What do you want to let into your soul? Just like the movies you mention Paul, so are the songs that are played buy the groups of today. The lyrics are ghastly and depressing. You are what you eat and you are what you think. The very same document states that we should renew our minds daily. whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Just wisdom from the owners manual.
