Take a Break

WomanOr did you forget why you started an online business in the first place?

When I started my first company I didn’t have a day off apart from Christmas day for three years. Partly because I was desperately trying to make money to keep going but partly because I felt guilty at the very idea of having time off.

Most self employed people I know work far too hard. They work long hours for six or seven days per week. Then, after some time they get ill or just burn out. It’s happened to me. I got really ill and couldn’t work more than an hour per day. I guess it was luckly I had an online business by then because if I’d been in a trade I could have gone bust.

It is vital that you take time out and have a good break from your business. Your clients can’t expect you to be there all the time so set their expectations. Make plans so you can take a good break and inform your customers. Get some coverage while you are away to deal with any important stuff such as incoming leads.

Have fun.

How many hours a week do you work? How many hours do you recommend working?

It is hard to get away from work when your laptop is staring you in the face. I always have to put the important things in life first if I want to maintain my sense of well being.

There must be a great deal of understanding and respect between the client and provider. If the client expects you to do the best job in line with his expectations, then he must have to respect your own time.

I try to always have enough time for my family. As much as I want to find as much work as possible, I also must find some time to be with my kids.

Jobs in the IT sector are not exempted from the burn-out syndrome. We all must take a break no matter what our clients or employers might say about it.

Sometimes it’s all about time management. You’ll get to spend time with the stuff you are doing if you properly manage your time, especially if you are working from home.

Hmmm, I’m heading to my vacation in a few days, but it seems that my laptop will be one of my companions…

At this stage of my career, I simply can not afford a day off. I know it’s frustrating, but I hope it will pay off in the next few months.

It seems that you are a busy person, but just like what Paul is saying it is vital that you take time out and have a good break from your business, career, or whatever it is that you do in your life.
